Section 40

This section provided for the taking of finger prints from a person who had attained the age of fourteen years and who had been taken into custody and charged with an offence. From 1967, this section applied to any person of not less than fourteen who appeared before a magistrates' court in answer to a summons for any offence punishable with imprisonment. From 1967, the references to finger prints in this section were construed as including a reference to palm prints.
